HOUSEHOLD SURVEYS

Household surveys are an important vehicle for data collection in all-statistical organisations the world round. They are a means to satisfying felt data needs and filling of data gaps that cannot be filled by other means, such as data generated from administrative records. They also collect data on specialised topics, which may have been covered during a census with greater depth. Survey data are also used to, at times, validate or complement data from other sources. Household Surveys became a programmed feature of the Central Statistics Office (CSO) work programme in 1983.
